Pistachio Trees Need Your Attention

If you planted some of our grafted pistachio nut trees in the last year or two please check this out.

Our pistachio is grafted onto a high-quality disease-resistant rootstock called UCB1. When the pistachio burst there buds above the graft they can also start to grow below the graft. If these buds are allowed to grow undetected they will eventually outgrow the graft and ruin your tree. You can easily rub off the new buds if they are small or cut them off with secateurs if they have got woody.

Check your trees for rootstock growth the next time you see them

The grafted Pistachio leaf is quite large and rounded. If your leaves are long and narrow then they have grown from the rootstock: get rid of them now.
