Jaboticaba is a delicious fruit that can be grown in southern Australia. In this region it is a beautiful, compact and slow growing shrub which can fruit 2 to 3 times a season. It takes a few years to reach maturity although this can be speeded up by cincturing of larger branches. The ripe fruit is shiny black, round, the size of a very large grape with flesh that is absolutely delicious tasting a bit like sweetened condensed milk.
Jaboticaba demands the best position in the garden with good soil, plenty of sunshine all year and shelter from wind. It will tolerate light frosts but should be protected against frost in the early years.
